In 2025, Korean cinema delivers one of its most visually arresting and emotionally intense genre films to date with Holy Night: Demon Hunter, a bold mix of supernatural horror, action, and religious symbolism. Set against the haunting backdrop of a corrupted Christmas season, the film follows Sister Maria (Kim Da-mi), a former nun and exorcist who has turned her back on the Church after a failed mission claimed the life of her younger sister.

But peace is not an option when a series of brutal killings during the holy season point to the rise of an ancient demonic order known as "The Thorns of Judas." Their mission? To complete a dark ritual on Christmas Eve that will open the gates of Hell. As churches burn and holy symbols are defiled, Maria is pulled back into a war between heaven and hell—armed not with prayers, but with sacred weapons and years of combat experience.

She’s joined by Father Gabriel (Ma Dong-seok), a battle-hardened priest who sees Maria as the last hope of salvation, and Detective Jae-hyun (Park Seo-joon), a skeptic drawn into the mystery after his own family is targeted. Together, they uncover secrets buried deep within the Vatican and trace the origins of the demonic force to a long-forgotten relic hidden beneath the city’s oldest cathedral.

What sets Holy Night: Demon Hunter apart is its unflinching portrayal of spiritual warfare in a modern world where faith has eroded and darkness thrives in silence. With masterfully choreographed action sequences, haunting exorcism rituals, and richly symbolic storytelling, the film balances brutality with beauty. The snowy cityscapes drenched in crimson, the eerie chanting of demonic cults, and Maria’s internal struggle between rage and redemption create an immersive experience both terrifying and tragic.

Director Lee Jae-kyu, known for his visionary work in Time to Hunt and All of Us Are Dead, brings a uniquely Korean gothic aesthetic to the screen. He combines fast-paced action with theological depth, exploring questions about faith, forgiveness, and the fine line between divine justice and personal vengeance.

With Kim Da-mi delivering a fierce, emotional performance and Ma Dong-seok anchoring the film with his signature gravitas, Holy Night: Demon Hunter promises to become a cult classic for horror and action fans alike. It’s a film where the sacred becomes weaponized, and Christmas becomes the battleground for humanity’s soul.

Prepare for a Christmas unlike any other. Evil doesn't take a holiday — and neither does she.
In theaters December 2025.
