Plot Summary
Set in the eerie town of Arkham, Massachusetts, the story begins in 1765 with the warlock Joseph Curwen (Vincent Price) being burned at the stake by townspeople for his dark rituals involving the Necronomicon and attempts to summon the Elder Gods, such as Cthulhu and Yog-Sothoth. Before his death, Curwen curses the villagers and their descendants .
Over a century later, in 1875, Curwen's great-great-grandson, Charles Dexter Ward (also portrayed by Vincent Price), arrives in Arkham with his wife, Ann (Debra Paget), to claim his inheritance—the very palace once owned by Curwen. As Charles settles into the mansion, he becomes increasingly influenced by Curwen's spirit, leading to a sinister transformation that threatens the town once more .
