After more than a decade of silence, DreamWorks Animation has officially confirmed the long-awaited return of its iconic franchise with Shrek 5, set to premiere on July 1, 2026.

The Original Cast Reunites

Mike Myers (Shrek), Eddie Murphy (Donkey), and Cameron Diaz (Princess Fiona) are all returning to voice their beloved characters. Joining them is Zendaya, who will voice Felicia, the daughter of Shrek and Fiona—marking the introduction of a new generation of characters.

Experienced Creative Team

The film is directed by Walt Dohrn, a veteran of the Shrek franchise who worked on Shrek 2 and Shrek the Third, with Brad Ableson as co-director. The screenplay is penned by Michael McCullers. Chris Meledandri, CEO of Illumination (known for Despicable Me and Minions), and Gina Shay serve as producers.

Updated Animation, New Storyline

While plot details remain under wraps, Shrek 5 is expected to explore a new chapter in Shrek’s life, focusing on family and legacy. The teaser trailer reveals an updated animation style with advanced CGI, giving classic characters a fresh and modern look while staying true to their charm.

Anticipation and Legacy

Shrek 5 is more than just a nostalgic return—it’s a strategic reboot aimed at both longtime fans and new audiences. With a talented cast and production team, the film is poised to continue the franchise’s legacy and potentially break new records at the global box office.
